Tribulus Terrestris: is considered an exotic plant. It was first used by Bulgarian Olympic Athletes (specifically weight lifters) in the 70’s because it was believed to increase blood flow and blood testosterone. After more stringent blood doping tests became available the Bulgarians were forced to stop using the plant’s concentrate as a supplement. Protodioscin, one of the steroidal saponins, may be the precursor for testosterone. It is considered the main compound responsible for the herb’s reputation as an aphrodisiac.

Muira Puama:

The active compounds in the bark and roots of the plant are beta-sitosterol, campesterol, coumarin and lupeol. Most noteworthy is the beta-sitosterol. This has been found useful for maintaining a healthy prostate gland and blood circulation. It is thought that Beta Sitosterol may assist in increasing blood flow to the prostate thereby promoting a healthy prostate function. Muira Puama root is classified as an energizer, cognitive enhancer. The sterols in Muira Puama may have a stimulant effect that can leave the user with a general feeling of well-being. It is marketed in Brazil as a “body stimulant, energetic tonic and aphrodisiac”.

Horny Goat Weed:

Known as “yin yang huo” to the Chinese people. Phytoestrogens are plant-based estrogens found in this plant. Horny goat weed contains a compound called icariin. Icariin is believed to block a protein known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). Under normal circumstances, a man’s body naturally suppresses PDE5 levels. Some older men may not be able to block phosphodiesterase type 5. Blocking PDE 5 may be a key component for increasing life force and energy for older men.
